Chuck Kirklen - President
A co-founder of Pragmatx, Chuck has over 33 years of software engineering expertise,
with the last 17 dedicated to web-based solutions. He has served in virtually every
capacity of software development, from developer to designer, from analyst to architect,
and as an executive.
Before founding Pragmatx, he participated in and led teams that have designed,
developed, and delivered mission-critical systems for companies such as General
Electric, Merit Technology, and Andrew Corporation. He has spent considerable time
in implementations in Europe, South America, and Asia.
Chuck was VP and Director of Development at Digital Pilot Corporation, which served
as the springboard for a new web solution development concept – Pragmatx. For his
entire career, he has been focused on the application of software engineering disciplines
in a world where businesses demand practicality and are unwilling to endure long development
cycles typically associated with classical software engineering techniques and methodologies.
His strengths are in bridging the communication gap between business people and
technologists, in creative problem-solving, and in the ability to view challenges
from both perspectives, then finding solutions that work for both mindsets.
Chuck holds a B.S. in Computing Science from Texas A&M University, and an M.S.
in Computing Science from Southern Methodist University. He has taught computer
science courses for Fortune 500 companies and at Collin College.
Janet Kirklen - VP Development
Janet brings over 33 years of software development experience in a variety of platforms
and technologies at companies such as General Electric, Rockwell International,
Electrospace Systems and Software Spectrum. She has served in project management
on both small and enterprise level projects for over half of those years.
Janet was responsible for the design of both back office and global eCommerce systems
while at Software Spectrum and since 1997 has managed various Internet technology
teams specializing in global .NET web development and Business-to-Business (B2B)
order placement and purchasing systems. Janet joined pragmatx in May of 2004 and
has been the lead architect and developer on several projects including FaceTime
Communications, BankDirect, Petrosearch and PortAuthority Technologies. Janet's
strengths are attention to detail, customer service, solid business sense, adherence
to sound software development methodologies, and applying technology to implement
innovative solutions.
At pragmatx, Janet is our Principal Technologist. Her primary areas of focus include
Search Engine Optimization (SEO), site effectiveness measurement, human interfaces,
and evaluation and integration of emerging technology into the architectures of
our solutions.
Janet graduated from Texas A&M in College Station, Texas with a B.S. in Computing
Science.
Kirk Wheeler - Director of Creative & User Experience
As director of creative and user experience, Kirk relies on more than 20 years of
award-winning work and experience to craft wide-reaching solutions that stamp your
brand firmly in the marketplace and engage your customers in ways you didn't think
possible.
Prior to joining pragmatx, Kirk's innovative designs were heavily featured in the
interactive work for Chrysler, AT&T Wireless, Oppenheimer Funds, Nissan, ABN
AMRO, and Netscape during his tenure at small agency in Dallas (Multimedia Learning,
Inc). In 2000, he began working at Digital Pilot, where his efforts lead in the
design and usability of web applications for clients such as Oxy, Siemens, and eOriginal.
In 2002, Kirk began working with Verizon. His work streamlined the visual design
and drastically increased the usability of a new product called iobi. This revolutionary
application connects multiple computer and telephone devices together and allows
users to easily mange their calls, voice mail, and email from any location through
an intuitive web interface. Kirk began work at etalk Corporation in 2003, where
he built and lead a UI team that redesigned the company's flagship product (Qfiniti)
from the ground up. The features and functionality of this enterprise application
were greatly expanded to incorporate the latest technologies in speech analytics
and trend analysis. These advances now help nearly half of Fortune 100 better understand
their customer wants and needs and measure how effectively these needs are met.
The revamped and rebranded application has been met with great enthusiasm and has
since won many industry awards.
Kirk has a B.A. in Graphic Design and a Master of Fine Arts degree. He has taught
a variety of courses at The University of Tulsa and Rogers State University.
